25 Lessons in 25 Years – Lesson 4: Take Time to Think

In part 4 of this series I want to share a valuable lesson that is actually a discipline that I am still trying to master…the discipline of intentional thinking. Because of the busyness of life and ministry I can tell you this, if you are not taking time for intentional thinking then it is probably not happening. If that is the case, there are probably brilliant ideas lingering in your mind just waiting for the opportunity to be released. Years ago I read a book written by John Maxwell … [Read more...]

Give It To Me Now

We have grown so accustom to “speed” that when things are delayed, we become impatient and aggravated. Okay, maybe it is just a personal problem and I am projecting my difficulty on you guys, haha. Here is an example, the other day I am working on a project in my office. I sent a multiple page document to the printer which is about 24 steps from my desk. As soon as I hit the command “print,” I jumped up and walked to the printer. Now I admit, I probably walk faster than most. But on this day, … [Read more...]

Where Are You Going?

What is the one common denominator in all our lives regardless of where you live, the size and scope of your ministry or your family situation? We are all BUSY! Almost everyone I know is “busy.” Even if they really aren’t busy, they feel compelled to say they are busy because everyone else is. We all agree life is just a little more complicated than it used to be and it does not seem to be letting up. But no matter what demands or expectations are placed on my shoulders, the stewardship of … [Read more...]

Disconnect or Die

Okay, maybe that’s a little strong. Let me start over. Hello, my name is Steve Adams and I’m addicted to connection. I didn’t think I was, but apparently I am addicted to connection. Now in all fairness, I’m not as bad as some people I know. I know people who literally can’t be separated from a mobile device…phone, iPad, etc. While I have NO trouble ignoring email, I did notice something about myself this week. You see, I took some vacation time with the intention of simply “doing nothing.” … [Read more...]

Maybe you have learned some valuable lessons when it comes to communicating to your Sr. Pastor. If so, I would love to hear them. But there are some simple things I have learned over the years, mostly the hard way, when it comes to communicating to my Sr. Pastor and I thought I would share one of those lessons today. Here it is…TIMING IS EVERYTHING! When you have something important to share with your Sr. Leader, always remember that timing is everything. Sometimes we don’t get the … [Read more...]

Mr. Fantastic, the scientific genius and the leader of the group, could stretch his body into incredible lengths and shapes. He was a human rubber band. Sometimes I feel like a human rubber band. No one has ever called me “Mr. Fantastic” … [Read more...]

Put Your Phone Away

The scene I am about to describe is all too common. You are out to eat with a friend. You sit down and they pull out their phone and place it on the table. All through the conversation and the meal, what do they do? They constantly look at their phone and react to every ding, bell and song that indicates someone has sent them a life changing message that can alter the course of humanity therefore I must ignore the people around me to check in with the person on the phone because they are … [Read more...]
