Great Minds Don’t Think Alike

I have come across some sayings that don’t make much sense when you really think about it. Here’s one: “No one goes there anymore…it’s too crowded.” Ok, then how is it crowded if no one goes there? Here’s another one: “Be still my beating heart.” Umm, I’m not a medical professional, but I think that’s a bad thing. Check this one out: “Great minds think alike.” We have all heard this saying and I’m not going to spend a great deal of time dissecting the phrase. We get it. But it does raise the … [Read more...]

Darwin Got This One Right

Before you cast judgment or label me a heretic, read the next few lines. Darwin once said this, “Survival goes not necessarily to the most intelligent or the strongest, but to the one that is most adaptable to change.” Even though he missed the big picture and built his life's work on the wrong principles, he did get this statement right. Change is necessary in order to survive. In a previous post I talked about RUTS and how dangerous they can be. You see, God likes variety…just look … [Read more...]

GUEST POST – Full Circle Ministry

As our pastor would say, my husband and I are “doing our part for church growth.”  With soon-to-be two little ones, we are blessed with what I call “Full Circle Ministry.”  Let me explain. My ministry has come full circle as far as life stages.  I hope in sharing a snapshot of my ministry testimony it is a source of encouragement as you are reminded of the value of what you do in children’s ministry. I began serving in children’s ministry as an over-involved high-schooler.  Goes to show you … [Read more...]

I’m a human rubber band

Do you remember a super hero team called “The Fantastic 4”?  These guys gained superpowers after exposure to cosmic rays during scientific mission to outer space (Nerd alert). There was The Invisible Woman, The Human Torch, The Thing and lastly Mr. Fantastic. Mr. Fantastic, the scientific genius and the leader of the group, could stretch his body into incredible lengths and shapes. He was a human rubber band. Sometimes I feel like a human rubber band. No one has ever called me “Mr. Fantastic” … [Read more...]

The “RUT”

This week I am fortunate enough to be hanging out at the Children’s Pastors Conference in San Diego meeting new friends and catching up with old ones. By old, I mean friends I’ve known them for a while. Okay, they’re old. Anyway, I love re-living fun memories, sharing ministry ideas and making connections that will help grow me as a leader. I realize more and more how absolutely vital relationships are in ministry. This is a great conference with lots of workshops, gifted general session … [Read more...]

Put Your Phone Away

The scene I am about to describe is all too common. You are out to eat with a friend. You sit down and they pull out their phone and place it on the table. All through the conversation and the meal, what do they do? They constantly look at their phone and react to every ding, bell and song that indicates someone has sent them a life changing message that can alter the course of humanity therefore I must ignore the people around me to check in with the person on the phone because they are … [Read more...]
