It is Not Just an Ordinary Day

It is not just an ordinary day. Today, what you do will make a difference. Everything, big and small, noticed or unnoticed, will contribute to the mission. It will make a difference. Every high five, every hug, every table cleaned, every chair pulled out of a trailer, every tablecloth folded, every lesson planned and every lesson taught. The games we play, the cards we print, the props we gather, the corners we sit in trying to write a lesson, the conflicts we settle, the calls we make, the … [Read more...]

Act Like You Own the Place

I noticed something while eating in a fast food restaurant recently that I feel is worth sharing. I happened to look around and noticed an unusual amount of debris on the floor…a few napkins, straw and small bag. The trash was obvious so I expected the next employee who walked by would remove the trash from the floor. Much to my surprise, an employee walked by and without flinching or hesitating she stepped over the trash and went on her way. That got my attention. Then another employee walked … [Read more...]

I Don’t Know How to Pray, No One Ever Taught Me How

Recently I saw the movie “Gravity” starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. I am a NASA freak so I will see anything connected to NASA or space. However, I was skeptical of “Gravity” after seeing the previews. My initial feeling was to skip this one because in the preview Sandra Bullock's character cried while in the middle of a mission in space. We all know astronauts don’t cry! Well, my wife and son Matt wanted to see the movie so we went. While I recognize I am not a movie critic, I … [Read more...]

GUEST POST – Are They Getting It?

Preparation for the weekend is quite a process. You think of fun games, really dig into the message, pray over it and then bring it on the weekend. But once the lesson is over, you wonder: did the children get it? Did the children truly understand the truth of the message? Did the children not just hear knowledge, but did they receive the power of the gospel? Do they know that the message of the gospel will impact their life? I have battled with these questions over and over many times. … [Read more...]

The Things We Do To Get By

The really smart people call it “coping mechanisms.” I like to simply call it things we do to get by. Think about it. Has something come up at work or at home and at the moment it was just too much to handle? You already have so much on your mind and whether you say it out loud or not, in your mind you scream “WHATEVER.” Or another response we use is “IT’S NOT MY PROBLEM.” Then there is the classic “IT’S NOT MY JOB” (which is close to the unpardonable sin on my team). At times we do employ … [Read more...]

Making Learning Fun!

How can we make learning fun? How can we help children understand concepts on their own? These questions have floated around in my mind for many years. My goal has been to help children learn Biblical concepts in an educational and fun way! The reason I feel so passionate about this subject is because I believe that the message of salvation is the most important concept people will ever hear. How can we as ministers help children truly understand this concept? One day I happened upon … [Read more...]
