It is not just an ordinary day. Today, what you do will make a difference. Everything, big and small, noticed or unnoticed, will contribute to the mission. It will make a difference. Every high five, every hug, every table cleaned, every chair pulled out of a trailer, every tablecloth folded, every lesson planned and every lesson taught. The games we play, the cards we print, the props we gather, the corners we sit in trying to write a lesson, the conflicts we settle, the calls we make, the calls we take, the shoulder we offer a volunteer to cry on, the complaints we absorb and the signs we put out and put away. The last minute changes, the extra events, dealing with teams who do not think the way we do, constantly adapting and reinventing, the simple prayers, quick little smiles we give, the efforts and energy we spend to not think about those bills or the conversation that has to be continued when we get home. Carrying the burdens of those we love while we try to do our jobs, feeling worn out by some, yet, encouraged by others. Piles of paper work, forms, Excel boxes and emails. Going home and not having a good answer to the question “what did you do today?”
Yes, every little thing makes a difference. But it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the vast number of “little things” that we each must do. Well my friends remember this:
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)
Do not try to carry all the “little things” or the “big things” alone. As the scripture says, cast your cares on the Lord today and invite Him to help you with all the heavy lifting. As frustrating as all those little things may be and even though most people will never understand what you must do to fulfill your role on this team, remember WHAT YOU DO TODAY, WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NLT)
