If you work with kids on a regular basis, more than likely you have been stripped of all pride. Like an axe cutting down a tree one swing at a time, kids will cut your pride down to the ground…remember kids camp…enough said! We love kids so much and we so want them to understand the truth of God’s Word that we will do anything to help connect and communicate with the kids in our church and community.
Now consider the above picture. Yes, the picture is scary and with the right sound effects it’s straight up creepy. But the guy in the picture, Ruben, is a modern day apostle Paul. He is willing to do anything if it will help kids understand the love of God.
Take a look at Paul’s words “To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.” 1 Corinthians 9:22
Certainly there is a time and place for everything. You and I have to be wise enough to discern when to “be a fool for Christ” and when to act like a grown up (BORING). Because, just as there are moments we need to allow ourselves to do goofy silly things to communicate to our kids, we also have to be prepared to properly represent ourselves and ministry to Sr. Leaders in the church, parents, etc.
It’s not just about acting like an idiot, it’s about being willing to do “anything” to reach the kids in your church and community. I think the apostle Paul would be happy with Ruben. I know I am, and more importantly, I know Jesus is.
Are you willing to do “anything” to share the love of Christ?
By the way, if you have a picture of yourself doing something goofy to connect with kids, send it to me and we’ll post it on “The Things We Do For Kids” section. That way we can all feel like idiots together….hah
